Kingfisher Cottage – sleeps 2

For a cottage that sleeps only 2, Kingfisher is enormous. Sleeping accommodation is in a gallery above the very large sitting room which is equipped with comfortable sofa, chairs, dining table, TV with DVD/video, electric fire (which looks like a real fire) The bathroom with toilet, wash-hand basin and shower, is accessed via the sitting room. The sitting room and galleried bedroom face North and have excellent views over the mill-pond. The kitchen is double aspect (north and east) and well equipped with electric cooker and hob, microwave, washing machine, fridge, kettle, toaster and mini radio/CD player. There is a good range of crockery, glassware, pans and cutlery.

Kingfisher does not have its own garden but guests may use the mill’s own substantial gardens.

As with our other Norfolk holiday cottage, Swallow, Kingfisher is heated by electric convector heaters and a real-fire effect electric fire. You are unlikely to need these in the summer. Electricity is now included in our tariff and we respectfully request guests to turn down heating if used when they are out of the cottage for any extended period during the day.

The comfortable bed is provided with linen, pillows and duvet. We also provide towels

Swallow Cottage – sleeps 4

Half of a converted barn, Swallow Cottage has a large sitting room with comfortable settee and chairs, dining table, TV and DVD/video player, electric fire (really does look like a real fire). The kitchen is a very light room with double aspect windows facing East and South. It has a halogen hob and electric oven, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. There is a new (2007) washing machine, stainless steel sink and drainer, breakfast bar and table and chairs. The kitchen has a good range of crockery, glassware, pans and cutlery. There is also a small radio/CD player. The two bedrooms have southerly aspects. The downstairs bedroom and en-suite bathroom is larger than the upstairs bedroom and ensuite and looks out onto the garden, whereas the upstairs bedroom has a more open view over the fields. Both en-suites have toilet, wash-hand basin and electric shower. The cottage sleeps four as two couples or one couple with a maximum of 2 children. You are welcome to bring your own DVDs and CDs as we do not provide these for copyright reasons.

Outside, Swallow has its own deck and south facing garden. The Mill’s own extensive grounds are also available for guests’ use.

A note about cluster flies

From the end of September through October cluster flies seek places to hibernate. These flies are harmless nectar eaters but they tend to congregate around south and west facing windows during this period – often crawling into the cracks around windows. They also get into roofs and from there can find their way into bedrooms and bathrooms. On sunny days they wake up thinking it is spring and try to get out. Cluster flies are a fact of life in certain parts of the country and there is nothing we can do about them. Although harmless it can be disconcerting and sometimes annoying to have flies buzzing around and sometimes dying in relatively large numbers in bathrooms and bedrooms. Swallow Cottage top bedroom has a south facing window and therefore is prone to collecting cluster flies during this period. Please be aware that if you book in late September or October you may experience this problem.
